Finally a Fine Video
The Dartmouth College Fund has produced an excellent video about the College — one that put me in mind of the consistently great efforts created by the football team. Bravo.
The production values are top notch, the comments pithy and informative, and the drone photography will show you the campus from angles that you have not seen before.
Addendum: Not to be sour — at least, any more than usual — but read this space on a regular basis to understand how the content of this video diverges from the policies and daily efforts of the Hanlon administration.
Addendum: An alumnus writes in:
Notice that Phil is nowhere to be seen…too, a tad too many nods to the grad schools…
Addendum: A close observer of the college writes in:
A couple things struck me about the video:
1. It is weighted heavily towards the female side, with 20 women students and faculty segments, to 14 men student and faculty segment (rough approximation, as there are some redundancies on both sides). A more careful statistical analysis might be useful, but in my cursory “back of the envelope” scoring, women dominate the video ~ 3-to-2.
2. There is very little about athletics or the rugged, rural nature of Dartmouth. One LAX bro speaks a couple times. No clear sense that any other students are athletes or do physical endeavors or outdoor activities — on a campus where roughly 25% of the student body are Division 1 athletes, and in a setting where the outdoors are a huge feature.
3. As the alum noted in your Addendum, Phil Hanlon and other top brass are nowhere to be seen, heard from or alluded to.

When Love Beckoned in 52nd Street
We were at San Francisco’s BIX last evening, enjoying prosecco, cheese, and a bit of music. A full year of inhabitation in Northern California has unraveled to me no decent venue for proper lounging, but…

D Afraid of a Little Competish
So our colleague and Dartblog writer Joe Asch informed me that the D has rejected our cunning advertising campaign. Uh-oh. The Dartmouth is widely known as a breeding ground for instant New York Times successes,…

How Regents Should Reign
As Dartmouth alumni proceed through the legal hoops necessary to defuse a Board-packing plan—which put in unhappy desuetude an historic 1891 Agreement between alumni and the College guaranteeing a half-democratically-elected Board of Trustees—it strikes one…
