Ivy Endowments Over 25 Years

Following up on our posts this week about the evolution of the endowment (here and here), below is a chart of the performance of all of the Ivy schools over the past quarter century (prepared by my data-drive ‘18):

We are solidly in the middle of the pack. The vaunted Harvard endowment has fallen on hard times, but the star of the show is not Yale, as I expected, but Penn. That said, recall this this chart describes overall endowment growth, not investment returns by fund managers. I imagine that Penn has done a good job controlling spending and raising money from alums, in addition to managing its money well.
