The Cant, the Turgid and the Ugly

For alumni and others who don’t have access to password-protected sections of the College’s website, here are the various elements of IP Folt’s newly issued Strategic Planning Initiative. Happy reading.

IP Folt Letter

Steve Mandel letter

Students of the Future

Pedagogy, Teaching and Mentorship

Research, Scholarship and Creativity

Experimental Dartmouth

Global Dartmouth

Digital Dartmouth

Graduate Education For the Future

Workforce for the Future

Alumni Involvement for Life

My title is a little harsh, but it seemed so fun. As a faculty friend reports:

I’m not sure that the reports establish any single vector for the college, but yesterday I came to think there are a sprinkling of good ideas and interesting criticisms in them.

Addendum: As this space has repeatedly predicted, IP Folt wants to rebrand the College by changing its name to Dartmouth University: Propoal #6 in the Dartmouth Global section of the strategic planning report contains the following:

6. Rename Dartmouth for international audiences, by:

-Using “Dartmouth University” or some equivalent to refer to the institution as a whole.

-Using “Dartmouth College” to refer to the undergraduate school of Arts and Sciences.

-Maintaining existing labels for other schools.
