A Man in His Element
In the below video, Jim Kim and rockstar Bono talk to staffers at the World Bank. Kim’s charm offensive is in full swing down in DC, as it was in his first year at the College — before faculty, students and staffers saw through the guy (the alumni never realized that he is no more than a fluent showman).
Kim’s new big thing is the “shocking” data regarding climate change. You have got to hand it to JYK; he really has technique. If you can find a subject about which your audience has little knowledge, you can easily come across as knowledgable yourself. I’d like to see Kim talk seriously about banking to his bankers. That won’t ever happen. He is too clever to take such a risk.
Like Kim’s $100 million budget deficit bogeyman at Dartmouth, at the World Bank Kim has trotted out the alarming figure of a warmed world where average temperatures rise 4°. That’ll get their attention. What a poser.
