Swim Dock Report: July 14 at 4pm
The temperature was 92° yesterday, the humidity high, and the sun beat down — yet there were only a couple of students on the new $270,000 swim dock (below bottom). Why? Simple. It’s too far to walk to the new dock from the usual approach route that students take, so undergrads in search of a dip go to the Safety Dock (below top), where a dozen happy students lazed away the afternoon. We take a look from the Ledyard Bridge each time we drive over to our secret swimming hole in Norwich. Students seem to have voted with their feet. What a waste the new dock is: wasted money, wasted controversy, and wasted effort. It could be a metaphor for something, don’t you think?
