Yet Another Open Budget Forum
Tomorrow there is will be yet another Open Forum on the College budget: Friday, January 15 at 12:30-2 p.m., Alumni Hall.
I am curious to see what can be added to the messages presented at recent meetings. The faculty seems to have shot its compassion bolt, and Jim Kim doled out doom and gloom aplenty the last time around. Perhaps we’ll get some inkling of the cuts ahead.
There seems to be a communications theory of some sort at work here, as if face time and expressions of caring will soften the blow when the the hard and painful undoing of the last decade’s mismanagement is announced.
My bet is that all of the chatter won’t make much difference. When the hammer does come down — if the Administration has the nerve to do what needs to be done — the howling will begin no matter what stroking has led up to that moment.
Addendum: President Kim has set the stage for tommorow’s meeting in an interview with the Valley News.
