Readers Respond on Teevens

Dartblog’s post the other day about Football Coach Buddy Teevens ‘79 has elicited multiple expressions of heart-felt support, including the following two missives from parents of players. They quite rightly put emphasis on Buddy’s human and pedagogical qualities, which I insufficiently noted on Monday.

Hi Joe,

I enjoyed reading your article on Coach Buddy Teevens. Our son, Tommy Patek, is a freshman linebacker at Dartmouth and we can tell you that what Buddy does for these young men is nothing short of incredible. We wouldn’t want Tommy playing for anyone else. Buddy is an outstanding coach and even better person. In spite of losing 3 of his best players- McManus, Jenny and Schweiger, he has kept this team together and remained positive. While very young, the team practices and competes hard every week and they are now learning how to win. The coaches, players, and parents truly believe that Dartmouth is on the cusp of being very successful on the football field. Thanks again for your support of Buddy and Dartmouth football. Go Green!

Joe,

My family suffered a terrible tragedy last weekend while I was in Hanover for the Cornell game. My stepdaughter and Jeremy Rick’s (#27) stepsister died in a car accident on Friday the 6th before the game. The outpouring of support from the Dartmouth Football community was amazing! From the Football staff, Coach Teevens’ wife, the quality players he recruits and even their families! The wins will come! But as so many people like to point out, Ivy League football is much more than wins and losses. Well, Coach Teevens and the Dartmouth football family proved it to us last weekend! I cannot imagine my son playing for any coach other than Buddy Teevens.
