Supermarket Self-checkout
I have to say I rather like the supermarket self-checkout registers that are popping up all over the place these days. I’ve also seen them, in a couple cities, at CVS and I would imagine they will spread to even more of the big retail kind of stores. It’s nice that when there are big lines at the peopled registers, there is a shorter option for people buying just a couple things. Men, apparently, use these things 17% more than women, whatever that means.
Still, checking out by yourself is a fair bit more labor intensive (for the customer), you have to scan everything and put all your things in bags yourself. I’m sure on the margin store prices are lower because of the saving of these machines, or will be after they pay for themselves, but I would like to see a little compensation for the self-checkouters. How about something like 1 or 2% off the purchase, I’m sure that would encourage a few more people to check out this way and then (at, least speaking for myself) self-checkouters wouldn’t feel so used after doing it themselves.
