Happenstance or Revealing Connection?
An interesting coincidence pointed out by a sharp-minded reader:
“I can’t help but notice that the same Wall Street guys who engineered the current financial crisis and this bailout are exactly the same guys who thought the Dartmouth board was too democratic and the petition trustees were insufficiently deferential to management. Now I see where they got it from. As Jose Cabrances said in his law review article, as board members, these guys behave toward Dartmouth’s president the way they wish their boards would behave towards them. I think that Hank Paulson and these big financial guys are all pals and supporters of Jim Wright and the board-packing plan.
Turns out that having a lot of money isn’t a good proxy for character or judgment after all.”
