Soon we will learn the identities of the new Trustees who will take seats on the Dartmouth Board as a result of the promulgation of the Board-packing scheme. (Or, rather, the takeover of the committee which was resisting the scheme.) They will, no doubt, be impressive people. Trustees are. (Impressive, that is.) But when one thinks about it, one will realize this: any one of them, if he deserves his seat, could have arrived at it by asking for the votes of ordinary alumni. Instead, this. Force, disruption, disrespect. A regular shame, and a little asterisk forever next to this administration and this Board. Not a small tragedy for the small College.

The Board will be adding eight new Trustees in all, with the new Trustees to come in, I believe, two segments. We will not have all eight up-front.
