Republican National Convention, Huckabee and Lingle Unite Party

Former Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee, is addressing the convention with incredible humor. He is on the attack towards Barack Obama and the Democrat Party. Gov. Huckabee skewered Sen. Obama for his “excellent adventure to Europe” and his desire to expand government control over our great nation. With his good humor, quick wit, and common man charm, Huckabee has the audience listening with rapt attention and springing to their feet in spontaneous ovations. One of these ovations was spurred by this gem:

“I am so tired of hearing about Gov. Palin’s lack of experience. She got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska then Joe Biden running for President”, Huckabee said.

Governor Huckabee is clearly beloved by many Republicans in this room. Though he did not win the nomination, his campaign lifted him from relative obscurity to national prominence. Though I’m sure that many in this room hoped that he would be on the ticket (including of course, himself!), he is giving a rousing speech in support of his friend and former opponent. Perhaps because the Republican contest was not as bitter and drawn out as that of the Democrats, he is easily able to convey the sense of party unity that Hillary Clinton could not.

Governor Linda Lingle is currently speaking, introducing the background of Sarah Palin. Already, she has touched on the scandal by saying that families face tough times, but they get through it. The background of Sarah Palin is so extraordinary and her record as a leader and reformer outshines that of Barack Obama. Certainly Joe Biden has a long and distinguished career in government, but even he lacks executive experience. When Lingle pointed out that the other ticket had absolutely “zero” executive experience, the crowd burst out into a spontaneous chant of “Zero, Zero, Zero”. The Democrat candidates have managed nothing.

Indeed, Lingle is hitting hard on Senators Barack Obama and Joe Biden. As Lingle noted, you can fit about 250 states the size of Delaware within the borders of Alaska. The Palin family is in their seats now and it is great to see them listen to positive remarks on their mother. Linda Lingle, another female governor who proceeded her term in office with a position as a mayor, is the perfect woman to introduce her fellow governor. The support for such a previously unknown candidate here at the convention is remarkable.

More later when Sarah Palin speaks.
