Better Have a License for that Cooler
I don’t mean to break up the Sarah Palin fest but I think this story is a good example of the kind of anti-competitive, anti-market b.s. that hopefully the Republicans (or Democrats) will fight against if they win this election. You can’t even sell cold water on a hot beach anymore. Despite the fact that vendor licenses cost thousands of dollars and are usually issued to long-time sellers, who more likely than not have ins with the people giving them out, it is illegal to sell food on or near the beach. It’s one thing to stop vendors from walking over the beach blanket and hassling people but what the article talks about above, and what is currently illegal, is selling out of a cooler on a boardwalk: beer, water, soda, pretzels, whatever.
As usual it is the little guys that are hurt by government regulations. The unlicensed vendors trying to earn a couple bucks for their families and every single consumer who, because of artificially limited competition, now has to pay more money for what they want.
