« Republican National Convention: Defining John McCain | Home | Sarah Palin Tonight »

It seems that once again the media is on the attack. The coverage of Sarah Palin has been disgraceful. She is the most exciting vice presidential candidate in recent history and the media are unhappy that John McCain outwitted them. He picked someone that they failed to consider and withheld the announcement till the time that he chose. The media enjoys breaking stories at the most inopportune times and John McCain thwarted them. What is the response though? To attack Governor Palin’s family and experience?

Governor Palin has served in executive office and has several notable accomplishments to her name, a record that presents a sharp contrast to Barack Obama, the top of the Democrat ticket. He has never served in executive office and has no significant accomplishments in the Senate over the last four years. The media seems to be so entranced by the historic nature of his candidacy as the first black man to be nominated to a major party ticket that they are ignoring the fundamental questions of his leadership, record, and experience. That speaks volumes about the intentions and agenda of the media as a whole.

I do not care if Palin’s 17 year old daughter is pregnant. Teenage pregnancy is a fact of life in this country. It can happen to children of even the most responsible, engaged parents. Carrying it as the headline story all day on CNN is ridiculous. There are important policy distinctions to make. There is a great deal of information to share about this little known governor from Alaska, far beyond this gossipy bit of news. I would call on the media to cover what’s really important to the American public, only then will they be able to earn back so much of the respect that they’ve lost.
