Unexpected
Before 10:00 p.m. tonight, when adoration of The One will saturate media attention for the foreseeable future and all else will become irrelevant, I must give credit for a surprisingly skillful oration from an unexpected source.
That source is Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich, perennial candidate and perennial national nutcase of the Democratic Party. On Tuesday, Rep. Kucinich gave what must be the most overlooked speech of the Democratic Convention, a fiery, forceful oration from a man who knew he had nothing to lose.
If one completely ignores the content of the speech to focus solely on its careful rhetorical construction, the conclusion is inescapable that it is very, very good. The delegates were clearly not expecting much; in the video below, many empty seats are visible near the front of the hall. But Mr. Kucinich earned himself a standing ovation when he finished, and granted, the delegates who chose to attend were probably slanted towards the nutcase wing of the party, but an ovation is an ovation.
Best new Kucinichism: neo-con artist.
