“How to Read Novels Like a Professor” by some one called Thomas C. Foster. Thank you, no.

N.B. I have read the Amazon synopsis; probably the book is better than its unprepossessing title. But why should anyone desire to read novels like a technician of novels reads novels? Why does there not exist a book called How to Read Novels Like a Fresh, Dopey Sentimentalist? The engaged reader seeks to shed his cynicism and live in the fiction. The professorial tack recommends just the opposite, doesn’t it?
