Speaking of failed Dartmouth propaganda, the July/August issue of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine contains a bizarre and notoriously poorly written article detailing “The Unknown and Unsung Undergraduate Days of Stephen Colbert ‘86.” It is the cover article, in fact. (And ironically, Mr. Colbert’s picture on the cover bears a “Truthiness Alert”—a warning that should be prominent in every edition of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine.)

Stephen Colbert is not, of course, a Dartmouth alumnus. The fictional character he portrays on The Colbert Report, who is also named Stephen Colbert, is.

The article takes a few cheap shots at The Dartmouth Review, offers awkwardly kitschy reminiscences of a number of Dartmouth personalities and institutions (most notably former history professor James Wright’s guttiest of gut courses, “Cowboys and Indians”), and even squeezes into the last few paragraphs a couple of mocking, smearing lies about the pro-parity majority in the Dartmouth Alumni Association’s recent elections.

Here is the article in pdf format—a scan. The text itself does not appear to be available anywhere in the interwebs.

Read it for the novelty value, regret it afterwards for having totally wasted your time.
