Will ‘Sustainable Dartmouth’ Sponsor ‘Carbon Belch Day?’
March 31 marked ‘Earth Hour’ during which folks turned off their lights and generally attempted to use less energy. (At Dartmouth this basically played out to the effect that students may have worked on their computer off battery power for an hour rather than leaving it plugged in.) June 12 will mark ‘Carbon Belch Day’ on which, at least grassfire.org, hopes they can “help Americans break free from the ‘carbon footprint guilt’ being imposed by Climate Alarmists.”
The basic premise is to “waste as much energy as possible on June 12 by ‘hosting a barbecue, going for a drive, watching television, leaving a few lights on, or even smoking a few cigars.’” For my part I don’t see any reason to waste energy, although I do think that we should be very careful to avoid going down the all to common path from uniformed hysteria to intrusive government regulation.
Joe has posted before about calculating his [carbon] footprint. Here you can calculate your Carbon Belch.
