“The ultimate responsibility for the fiasco — which will continue for awhile — is Dartmouth’s. Someone there didn’t care that the woman can’t write and can’t teach.” — Margaret Soltan.

It took four successful petition trustee candidacies to cause Dartmouth really to care about the woe-begone state of prose on the Hanover plain—and even then the response has been but cosmetic. But what can one expect? It is not at all clear that the average college professor has a stronger command of written English than the average undergraduate.
