“If you had to decide whether the United States should be governed by the faculty of Harvard College or by 2,000 people chosen at random from the Boston phone directory, which would you choose?”

In reading a tribute to William Buckley in Liberty, this question came up as one he asked his guests on ‘Firing Line.’ Nearly everyone, academics included, answered, ‘the second, of course.’
