Contributing significantly to the slummy aspect of Dartmouth College is its inattention to the modern necessity called premium television. Behind the medical school soars an absurd white parabola erected for the sole purpose of delivering al-Jazeera agitprop to students’ dormitories; a simple phone call would add HBO, but that phone call has not been placed. Thus I have missed all but the first three episodes of HBO’s superb John Adams miniseries.

The good news? The DVDs come out this June.
