« Esteemed Dartmouth Mathematician Dies | Home | Deroy Murdock Addresses Dartmouth Students »

Murdock.pngYet another great conservative speaker arrived on campus today. Nationally syndicated columnist Deroy Murdock, whose column “This Opinion Just In…” appears in approximately 400 newspapers each week, will be speaking tonight on the Freedom of Association, in an event sponsored by the Dartmouth College Republicans, COSO, and Young America’s Foundation. Mr. Murdock has lectured or debated at the Cato Institute, the Heritage Foundation, the Council on Foreign Relations and is a frequent guest on CNBC, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and C-Span.

This event is the latest in a string of speakers brought to campus by conservative students to inspire intellectual debate among their peers. While securing funding for such events can prove challenging, the effect is invaluable. As it becomes easier for conservative speakers to come to Dartmouth, students learn to challenge the assumption that college students should be liberal. Instead of being inculcated day after day by liberal professors and the seemingly endless string of leftist speakers, students have the opportunity to hear educated opinions rooted in traditional conservative thought. I shall post more on the speech after the event, but in the meantime, I find myself truly optimistic that students are taking the initiative to help balance out campus discourse. If you are in the Hanover area, you should consider attending.
