« Another Vox from Dartmouth | Home | Hollow Out the Core »

In the last two elections for Dartmouth Trustees, roughly 25% of Dartmouth’s 66,000 alumni voted. The six-week voting period in the current election has just closed, and 20% of alumni have cast their ballots using the Internet. However, alumni could also vote using a paper ballot. If past electronic/paper ratios hold, the total turnout will be around 25%, which is the historical standard.

Not since 1993—14 years ago—has participation risen above 25%. Of course, turnout on the historic constitutional referendum last year was a stunning 37%, making the rejection of the constitution the largest democratic action in Dartmouth history. But that referendum involved unprecedented levels of campaigning, and this Trustee election has been quieter.

Results will be known on Thursday. Watch this space!
