A lot of Britons furrowed their brows when a proud ship of its Royal Navy, certain of her position in Iraqi waters, gave herself up to Iranian pirates on a kidnapping mission. They squinted and said, “Huh?” when their government played the negotiating game with Tehran, granting effect to piracy. Britons sort of sighed in exasperation when the whole “name, rank, and serial number” idea was brushed aside in favor of the Iranians successfully pressuring all fifteen British military men (and one woman) to give confessions that they were in the wrong.

I wonder what the reaction will be on receipt of this revelation from one of the sailors:

“A guard kept flicking my neck with his index finger and thumb. I thought the worst.”
