Special Feature: In Pursuit of a New President
The College is on the hunt for its seventeenth president after James Wright announced his June 2009 resignation. A search committee has been formed; its antecedental task is the resolution of this question: is this a time for steady-as-she-goes, or is there a mandate for fresh leadership? Updates here.

Byron York has a saucy little write-up on the lamest outrage Maureen Dowd has dug up in a long while. She’s claiming that the right-wing smear machine has conspired to begin calling Senator Barack Obama by his full name, which is Barack Hussein Obama. Involved in the conspiracy are Ed Rogers, who used the middle name on the Hardball television program, the National Review magazine, and Senator Obama’s parents. (Although Dowd does not explicitly implicate the latter.)
The argument from Dowd is that this is a racist tactic, although as usual with these sorts of unfounded accusations, the specter of racism says far more about the one hurling the accusations than the accused.
