« Claims of Censorship and Intimidation at Dartmouth | Home | A Note from Andrew Eastman ‘07 »

A person familiar with the workings of the Dartmouth administration e-mails: “This issue should be a proper challenge for Dan Nelson in his new role as Acting Dean of College. The brief of that position is, at the very least, to stand up for the integrity and confidentiality of student records and for an exclusive prerogative of authority over Dartmouth undergraduates. These are part of his domain and not Alumni Affairs’. There must be a kind of division of powers - or else Dartmouth should give up on the ‘educating students’ pretext…”

But, of course, no matter whose domain, there is never any excuse for a College administrator to interrogate a student for having authored political commentary. And it remains to be seen just who had knowledge of what, at least now, appears to be a policy of intimidation.
