« Dartmouth Grants Full Tutition to ROTC Cadets | Home | “Oscar’s desperate search for relevancy continues.” »

I realize that Steve Miller Band’s 2003 greatest hits release “Young Hearts” is older than old news. But I just returned from the media store with a boatload of discs purchased with my Christmas bonus—the ad revenue from this dear blog—and among Solti, Holiday, Sinatra, and Coltrane, I obtained the remastered and up-converted Steve Miller songs. Wow. I had previously in my possession some satisfactory transfers from vinyl. But the conversion from 16- to 24-bit makes a stunning difference, at least to my ears. What will mastering houses think of next?
