transit-strike.jpgThe scene as I walked out of work was chaos: Grand Central Station had, in no particular order: a dozen television masts, a hovering helicopter, scores of police officers and scores more of pre-strike transit workers, an enormous inflatable rat, a growing crowd, hundreds of tired workers walking on a sidewalk thinned by NYPD barriers, portable lighting towers, highly advanced sound reinforcement equipment, and techno music thereupon. The transit workers union is in eleventh hour negotiations with the city suits, with a midnight deadline. If the City will not accede to the union’s demands in a new contract, things will be quite dicey in Manhattan tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I have escaped to New Jersey for reasons of weather, Friday obligations, and of course the labor union. Blogging was light today because of a major web launch at work. A bad day to be so busy, I know, with today’s possible Berlin Wall moment.
