Sports Sunday

Dartmouth’s girls battle Northwestern for the NCAA lacrosse championship this afternoon. If they win, they would win for Dartmouth its first national championship since 1976. I should be watching that game (in fact, I ought to be there) but the greatest spectacle in racing is also today, and I’m glued to Indianapolis. It isn’t just the biggest race; it is the biggest single-day sporting event. 300,000 are in the stands, and by all reports the weather is perfect. And there are great stories today. The incredible Penske team, Al Unser’s trials, Michael Andretti’s return, and that he’s racing today against his 19-year-old son Marco and, of course, the media’s favorite story, the adorable Danica Patrick.

UPDATE: Dartmouth lost 7-4 to Northwestern.

WOW: Marco Andretti in second. A 19-year-old rookie. Incredible. And father Michael right behind. Wow. And the most impressive part? He could have blocked Hornish, but it wouldn’t have been safe at all.
