In the Aftermath…
By now you and everyone you know have no doubt heard of Senator Lindsey Graham’s personal apology to the Alito family for the cruel and thoughtless tactics employed by Senator Kennedy, and Mrs. Alito’s tears. She was escorted out of the room, but not before the whole world saw what Kennedy’s slurs had wrought. What a horror. There is an entire essay, a beautiful and nation-changing one, to be written on how these last years of absolute reliance on personal destruction rather than political discussion are fundamentally destructive of government itself, and about an opposition party that has found a new avenue—slurs—to accomplish what it cannot on Election Day. But there is another matter at hand. Can the business of evaluating Judge Alito’s judicial credentials now resume?
