“Many of us driving the bus would be in the back of the bus.”
Transit Worker Union president Roger Toussaint, at 4:13P, in a press conference explaining his union’s position and rather outrageously race-baiting. Meanwhile, City Journal, which is indeed one of the best publications in the nation, prints Nicole Gelinas’ plea: “Mayor Bloomberg: Get the Buses Running.”
I think it’s more the demesne of George Pataki, but in any event I think everyone would be best served by immediately hiring out-of-work New Yorkers to run the trains and buses, while dismissing union employees on a rolling basis. Already today, 1,000 TWU employees have left the picket lines and asked for work from the MTA. Enacting a re-staffing plan would have the protest ranks thinning even more quickly, I suspect, and whichever politico jumps on that Reaganesque plan would have many public plaudits in the bank.
Then use the leftover funds to pay the NYPD more.
