And There Were Excuses, And It Was Good

Saddam Hussein, after acting like a child for the first few sessions and failing to appear at the last, finally reared his mug in court today. But he asked for “a prayer break,” indicating that his next defense would be rebirth. The judge shot him down. Good decision. Elsewhere, Judge John E. Jones III ruled against Intelligent Design advocates in Dover v. Kitzmiller, saying that it represented an excuse to bring faith into the classroom. Another good decision, I’d say. The two incidents are, of course, entirely unrelated. Saddam’s goal is to inspire hatred, anti-Americanism, and violence. And, eventually, to get away with crimes against humanity. Intelligent Design advocates want to be free to pass their religion on to their children unfettered. It’s night and day. But in both cases, I’d say, the name of religion was being abused. Nice to see that ‘dhimmi’ doesn’t always go far.
