New Jersey Governor Race Heats Up

Doug Forrester and Jon Corzine sparred Tuesday evening on a radio station near and dear to my heart- New Jersey 101.5 out of Trenton. That radio station, now the largest FM talker in the nation, is a case study in broadcast success. That story, and even I don’t know the half of it, is a whole other post. For now, suffice it to say NJ1015 is New Jersey’s only source for gritty election coverage like that heard on Tuesday night. The debate produced this Times report, among others. Congratulations to Eric Johnson and Eric Scott on producing an excellent broadcast.

Later, from my home town the AP’s Angela Delli Santi filed this AP dispatch, revealing that in record campaign spending, Democrat Jon Corzine, the former CEO of Goldman Sachs who ran in an uncontested primary has spent $23.5 million of his own money to win the office. Republican and former U. Penn professor Doug Forrester, meanwhile, has expended $11.2 million to win the primary and $10.5 for the general election.

The race remains tied up, after months of a twenty-point Corzine lead.

Gaud Note: Jon Corzine, billionaire, senator, former CEO of a multi-national financial institution, and adult, is wearing two brightly colored rubber wrist bands.
