Descending Upon Washington

I just spent thirty minutes watching the day’s protests on C-SPAN. I hope more people—on the left and the right—do the same. It was a grim sight. The protests were not so much about the Iraq War (and, when they were, failed to identify any post-surrender strategy) but about things like racism and Palestine and Zionism and capitalism. At one point, the audience (which I would estimate at a couple thousand) was ordered to chant “Free Palestine!” and did so willingly. It was a disorganized and ugly hodgepodge of insignificant, unrelated, or anti-American pet issues. I urge everyone to watch the C-SPAN broadcasts. The sort of alliances being made between American liberals and extremeist segments are truly unholy. It is no surprise that the AP reports were so tempered, and that no politicians appeared.
