Smog America and Choosing Your Battles
Michelle Malkin has, it seems, gone single-issue on her website, throwing down against Air America on every tidbit she sees.
I don’t think that’s a good idea.
I thought it was stupid to do with Plame and I think it is stupid to do with Air America.
There is an ongoing investigation. Conducted by professionals. Who have access to first-hand knowledge. And the ability to subpoena. Blogs aren’t going to get ahead of the law enforcement and legal professionals who count this investigation as their job.
Anyone who is going hardcore on Air America (or Plame, for that matter) and who, like me, mocked the microscopic Scott Peterson news coverage, ought to take a good look at themselves. Just because the dead horse you are beating belongs to the opposite political party doesn’t mean you are doing anything worthwhile by beating it.
On Smog America, I say let the investigation proceed. By all means, introduce the topic to the public. But producing ridiculously long lists of questions that Air America ought to answer just seems, I’m sorry to say, silly. Covering every AP dispatch and lamenting the lack of media coverage and picking every atomic-sized nit you can find is just a poor man’s excuse for an actual criminal investigation.
Michelle Malkin is “all over” Air America? No, the New York City Department of Investigation is.
Josh Marshall is “all over” Plamegate? Sorry, Patrick Fitzgerald has him beat.
There is a lot that the blogosphere does excellently. Criminal investigation is not one of them.
