No Frenzy For Stone
When I read this report of Oliver Stone’s arrest for drugs and alcohol, I couldn’t help but recall Bill O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh. Neither of those two was ever arrested, and Limbaugh was addicted to painkilling drugs prescribed him after surgery. Yet their cases earned much more than a single burried and un-updated AP dispatch.
So I am curious why that is all Oliver Stone gets.
UPDATE: Niral Shah offers an explanation:
I think the key difference is that Limbaugh and O’Reilly are giant celebrities that far more Americans view/listen/know of, and they broadcast daily, and more importantly, they go on pretty fierce tirades about drug users and drug dealers. Limbaugh especially, I’m pretty sure he talks quite a bit about drug-dealing minorities, and believes in very severe punishment for those who use or sell drugs. Stone might be big in hollywood, but less Americans know who he is, are confronted with his work daily, and I doubt the man’s ever made a loud public statement about the evils of drug use.
