Halliburton Continues Doing Business; NBC Investigates

Mysteriously, Halliburton continues to exist.

So NBC sent its intrepid ‘investigative unit leader’ Lisa Myers to find out just why this frothing beast continues to conduct its affairs, even after NBC News had clearly indicated that Halliburton (est. 1919) is evil.

Halliburton, others evade Iran embargo

By Lisa Myers & the NBC investigative unit

In January, Halliburton won a contract to drill at a huge Iranian gas field called Pars, which an Iranian government spokesman said “served the interests” of Iran. [..]

Halliburton says the operation — videotaped by NBC News — is entirely legal. It’s run by a subsidiary called “Halliburton Products and Services Limited,” based outside the U.S.

In fact, the law allows foreign subsidiaries of U.S. corporations to do business in Iran under strict conditions.

Well, there it is.

As it turns out, Congress is looking to close that loophole- which is an important move- but as long as it is there, why is NBC headlining with Halliburton when dozens of other major US companies do business in Iran via foreign subsidiaries? Why is this an investigative report, and not a standard article on a legislative loophole?

Because it’s Halliburton, that’s why.
