More on WalMart
Amanda thinks I’m off-base in my earlier comments supporting the non-unionization of WalMart employees.
Aside from brainwashing and propaganda (which both sides are probably semi-gulity of) WalMart has closed down departments that voted to unionize in the past. (Example: The Meat-Cutters in Jacksonville, Texas). She has more details at the link.
WalMart is also in the news today because it is planning on closing down its Jonquiere, Quebec store and firing the 190 employees there if they unionize. Quebec’s labor relations board has ordered the corporation to stop intimidating workers.
ALSO: New Yorkers keep WalMart out of city, evidently preferring bare ground (or a Starbucks, perhaps?) to that evil store.
AND: The Old Grey Lady contributes her crotchety invective: “…a triumphant chorus of ringing cash registers as accompaniment: Every minute, around the clock, this colossus of commerce earns an average of nearly $20,000.”
