Rock the Vote Is Not Non-Partisan

This is all the evidence I need (besides RTV having fanned the draft-scare flames in front of Dartmouth Hall last year) that MTV’s Rock the Vote is a partisan group.

Rock the Vote is hitting below the belt in its battle against President Bush’s push to privatize Social Security: It’s printing protest thongs.

The group will emblazon the skimpy skivvies with the slogan “I Love Social Security.” Trucker hats and so-called wifebeater T’s will also bear the emblem.

“The proponents of privatization are targeting young people, and we’re saying young people need to learn more before making their decision,” Rock the Vote’s Lindsey Berman told us. A White House spokesman said dryly, “We don’t comment on undergarments.”

Besides the fact that any thoughtful young person is pro-private accounts, would a non-partisan get out the vote group lobby against Social Security reform? Methinks MTV has a very low opinion of their viewers’ cognative abilities. Of course…
