The First Blogger Trustee?

Todd Zywicki, a blogger at The Volokh Conspiracy, one of my favorite blogs, wants to run for a Trustee position at Dartmouth. His post on the subject- and an entreatment to petition for his name to be on the ballot- is right here. Not being an alum [yet], I cannot officially support him, but I’d invite readers to. Among other things, he makes his stance on athletics clear: he is on the pro-athletics side of Dartmouth’s own memogate, which has been thoroughly discussed here.

His goals are:

  • Maintain mission of undergraduate education.

  • Maintain mission of recruiting and developing well-rounded students.

  • Alter financial priorities (no more of this, I hope) to aid the goal of excellence in undergraduate education.

  • Improve College governance through greater transparency. (One of the benefits of putting a blogger in there.)
UPDATE: Prof. Zywicki: “Thanks for your support and your blog. In the end, this is about you guys the students, not just about us old guys. Dartmouth is a special place to me and I think that my life experience has taught me some lessons why, and I hope that I can use my insights to improve Dartmouth!”
